Measuring Your Belt
Measuring Your Belt
Check the markings first. Most belts have their size printed on the back, for example A24, SPZ1000 or 8PK1200. Type that code into the search bar to find the exact match.
Markings worn off? Measure across the top of the belt for the width, and its depth. For the length, wrap a piece of string round the belt, mark where it meets, then lay the string flat and measure it.
Timing or ribbed belt? Count the teeth or ribs, and measure the gap between them.

Check it’s the right belt
- The old belt should be marked 12PL2921 (or 12 PL 2921, or 12L2921). 12 is the number of ribs, PL the profile and 2921 the effective length in mm.
- Count the ribs across the underside of the old belt: this one has 12. The second picture shows how to count them.
- Check the rib pitch: PL ribs are 4.7mm apart. A belt with the wrong profile won’t seat in the pulley grooves.
Not quite the right size? The nearest sizes with 12 ribs are 12PL2020 and 12PL5029. Not sure? Call 020 8138 2848 and we’ll help you find the right belt.
