Open Length Belting

Open length timing belting

Open length timing belting, also called open-ended belting, is supplied cut to the length you need rather than as a joined loop. It’s used wherever the belt is clamped at each end, such as linear actuators, sliding doors and gates, printers, packaging machines and positioning drives. Choose rubber or polyurethane, then metric or imperial.

Choosing open length belting

Three things decide which belting you need: the material, the profile and the width.

  • Rubber or polyurethane?Rubber is flexible, quiet and good value for light drives. Polyurethane has steel or aramid cords for very low stretch, so it’s the choice for precise positioning and conveying.
  • Metric or imperial?Metric profiles include HTD, RPP, T and AT. Imperial profiles are MXL, XL, L, H and XH. The profile must match your pulleys exactly, so check the code on the old belt or measure the tooth pitch.
  • Width and lengthMost belting is sold by the metre, so the quantity you order is the length you get. Some listings are pre-cut fixed lengths and say so in the title.

Rubber open length · Metric

Flexible, quiet and good value, for light linear drives, sliding doors and gates, office machinery and repairs. HTD-type round tooth profiles, including Megadyne RPP, in 3mm, 5mm, 8mm and 14mm pitch.

Rubber open length · Imperial

Imperial trapezoidal profiles for older and American-built machinery, printers, door operators and light linear drives. MXL, XL, L and H in standard inch widths.

Polyurethane open length · Metric

Steel or aramid cords for very low stretch and accurate positioning on linear actuators, conveyors and packaging machines. T2.5, T5, T10, T20, AT5, AT10, AT20 and polyurethane HTD profiles.

Polyurethane open length · Imperial

The standard MXL, XL, L, H and XH tooth shapes with the strength, low stretch and oil resistance of polyurethane, for linear drives built to inch sizes.

Clamp plates

Toothed plates that fix each end of the belt to a carriage, slide or door. Choose a plate that matches the belt profile and is at least as wide as the belt.
