Frequently asked questions

Answers to the questions we get asked most, from reading the code on an old belt to delivery and returns. Can't find what you're looking for? Give us a call and we'll help.

Finding the right belt

How do I find out which belt I need?

Start with the code printed on the back of your old belt. That code is usually all you need to find an exact replacement using the search bar.

If the code has worn off, measure the width across the top of the belt and its length, or tell us the make and model of the machine. Contact us with whatever you have and we'll identify it.

What do the codes on belts mean?

Most codes give the belt's section and length. A classical belt like A68 is an A section belt with an inside length of 68 inches. A wedge belt like SPZ1250 is an SPZ section with a datum length of 1250mm.

Timing belts such as 8M-1200-20 show the tooth pitch (8mm), the length (1200mm) and the width (20mm). Ribbed belts such as 6PK1200 show the number of ribs (6), the section (PK) and the length (1200mm).

My old belt has no code. How do I measure it?

Measure the width across the top of the belt and the depth from top to bottom. For the length, either measure round the outside of the belt, or run a tape measure round the pulleys on the machine where the belt fits.

Send us those measurements, ideally with a photo, and we'll match the section and length.

What's the difference between smooth and cogged V-belts?

Cogged belts have notches cut into the underside, which lets them bend more easily round small pulleys and run cooler. They're often a straight upgrade on the equivalent smooth belt, for example an AX in place of an A section. If you're not sure whether your drive suits one, ask us.

Can I use a wedge belt instead of a classical V-belt?

Not always. Wedge belts (SPZ, SPA, SPB, SPC) and classical belts (Z, A, B, C) have different profiles, and while some are similar in width, they're designed for different pulley grooves. Tell us what's on the machine and we'll confirm what will fit.

Should I replace all the belts on a multi-belt drive?

Yes. On drives with two or more belts side by side, replace them all at the same time. Mixing new and worn belts means the new ones take most of the load and wear out early.

How do I know when a belt needs replacing?

Common signs are cracking on the underside, a shiny or glazed surface, fraying edges, squealing on start-up, or the belt slipping even after it's been re-tensioned. If one belt on a drive shows these signs, check the others too.

Do you sell belts for scooters, mowers and agricultural machinery?

Yes. Use Shop by Machine to find belts by make and model. Scooter belts can also be found by the size printed on them, for example 788-17-28.

I can't find the belt I need. Can you get it?

Very likely. We only list part of what we can supply, so if you can't find it on the site, contact us with the code, measurements or machine details and we'll look into it.

Cut-to-order belts

Which belts are cut to order?

Timing belts and ribbed belts are cut to your chosen length or width, along with any other belt described as cut to order on its product page.

Can I return a belt that's been cut to order?

No, unless it's faulty. Because it's made to your specification, a cut-to-order belt can't be cancelled or returned once cut. Your legal rights for faulty items still apply. If you're unsure of the size, call us before you order.

Orders and delivery

How much is delivery and how long does it take?

Delivery costs are worked out at checkout based on the weight of your order and where it's going. In the UK we offer Royal Mail as our economical service and FedEx for express delivery. See our Delivery page for details.

Do you deliver outside the UK?

Yes. We ship worldwide using FedEx, DHL and Royal Mail International. Available services and prices are shown at checkout. Import duties and taxes may be charged by the destination country and are payable by the recipient.

When will my order be dispatched?

We dispatch orders Monday to Friday. Orders placed at weekends or on bank holidays go out on the next working day. You'll get an email with tracking details as soon as your order is on its way.

How can I pay?

We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay and Shop Pay. Approved trade account customers can apply to pay on account.

Can I get a VAT invoice?

Yes. Contact us with your order number and we'll send one over.

Can I change or cancel my order?

Contact us as soon as possible. If your order hasn't been dispatched, we'll do our best to change it. Cut-to-order belts can't be changed once they've been cut.

Returns and refunds

How long do I have to return something?

You can cancel within 14 days of the day after delivery, and then have a further 14 days to send the item back. We refund you within 14 days of receiving it. Full details are on our Returns and refunds page.

What if my item is faulty or wrong?

Contact us before fitting it. If it's faulty, or we've sent the wrong item, we'll put it right and cover the cost of the return.

Trade accounts

Do you offer trade accounts?

Yes. If you buy belts regularly for a business, apply for a trade account and we'll review your application and be in touch by email.

Can I get credit terms?

Credit terms are available to approved businesses, subject to a credit check. You can request them on the trade account application form.

Still got a question?
